CURRENT PROJECT

SAVE THE WATER TOWER

On Saturday, August 16, 2014, the town gathered for its first “Save the Water Tower Workday.” Volunteers brought clippers and other tools and helped remove the vines from the tower and the old jail nearby, celebrating their efforts afterwards with a picnic. Later, the most resistant vines clinging to the top of the tower were removed thanks to the donation of the use of a cherry picker truck, allowing for an objective assessment of the work needed to restore and preserve the tower, estimated at $15,000.   A dove hunt at Roseland Historical Farm raised $4,000 toward the cause, and an application by the Town of Faunsdale to the Alabama Historical Commission was rewarded with a grant of another $5,000.

In October 2014, the Faunsdale Foundation was formed to provide assistance to the Town of Faunsdale in preserving and promoting its heritage. In the spring of 2015, the Faunsdale Town Council voted to undertake the painting of the tower based on a commitment of the Faunsdale Foundation to reimburse it for its efforts. Please help us by contributing to this worthy cause today, and join us at the Faunsdale Foundation’s 2015 Dove Shoot at Roseland Historic Farm on September 19, 2015.
