WHY SAVE THE WATERTOWER?
The water tower is the single most visible landmark in northeast Marengo County, Alabama. Towering at 100 feet, it announces Faunsdale as a destination, rather than a mere crossroads.
Unlike other small towns struggling to maintain their identity amidst fast food franchises and chain stores, Faunsdale proudly retains its sense of place, thanks to the many late 19th and early 20th century landmarks that make it unique. The water tower especially, with the town’s name spelled out in bold letters on its face, fosters civic pride and unites the community.
No photograph of the town is complete without this identifying landmark in the background. This is why the Faunsdale Foundation made the tower’s restoration a top priority, as well as the symbol of its charitable organization.
